South by Southwest offers a seat at the table for anyone with an important message to the masses or to a unique niche crowd.
Such was evident again this year as the exhibition floor of SXSW looks a little different.
GMO Answers is bringing genetically modified crops (GMOs) to the festival for attendees to experience as part of a “low tech conversation about high tech crops.”
GMO Answers, a public education program intended to create an open, transparent conversation about GMOs, invites consumers to “Ask Us Anything.” At SXSW, consumers will get their questions answered by experts in-person – farmers, scientists and nutritionists – and, for the first time ever at the festival, touch and feel crops made with GM seeds.
“We’re really excited to be at SXSW this year. Until now, most of the conversation has taken place online at GMOAnswers.com and across social media. At SXSW we’re taking this to the next level, engaging in a dialogue with Ben & Jerry’s to explore where we have common ground on transparency, surrounding agriculture, the environment, and the food we serve our families,” said Cathleen Enright, Ph.D., a spokesperson of GMO Answers (and executive director of the Council for Biotechnology Information).
