Office Depot partnered with go2 and mobilized their website. The Office Depot WAP site is a little disappointing though. I was jazzed to see that I could Text OD to 462411. Smart approach for all you marketers out there… users have a more difficult time keying URLs into their mobile devices so short codes are the way to go. I received a URL back as an SMS in a matter of seconds after I sent my Text.
I thought I’d be able to shop for Products though and I wasn’t so that’s the root of my disappointment. Here’s the current mobile offering from Office Depot:
- Click To Call
- Store Locator
- Newsletter Signup
- Weekly Online Specials
- Daily Tips and Fun
- Design Print and Ship
- Worklife Rewards
- About
If Office Depot were smart they’d automatically ping me with another SMS to see if I was interested in receiving that Newsletter and the Daily Tips. I already Text’d them so they now know who I am.
The OD does appear to be a step ahead of Staples with this new feature, though the Staples site does render in my mobile device it appears to be a down level version of the Browser based website and there’s lots to chew on.
Oh and I’m not sure why but there seems to be no mention of the mobile site to the customers on the Browser based Office Depot web site. Perhaps, that’s being held back until more features can be released to the mobile version of the site?
Go take a look for yourself, are there enough features to make you change your Office Depot buying habits?
