Nuance May be Acquired by Samsung

Nuance May be Acquired by SamsungNuance Communications – a formidable powerhouse among speech-recognition software makers – is reportedly about to go on sale.

And based on chatter coming to light across the tech blogosphere in the last 24 hours, Samsung may be the most interested party – not Apple, a company already known for its close partnership with Nuance.

Nuance Communications, we’re told, has already engaged in acquisition talks with unnamed potential buyers.

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Nuance has “recently spoken about a possible sale of the company with Samsung Electronics Co. and private-equity firms… It isn’t clear where sale talks, some of which happened earlier this year, currently stand or if they will lead to a deal.”

Today, Nuance enjoys an impressive $5.5 billion market cap, making it a hefty but potentially hugely valuable company for the right bidder.

As of this writing, neither Apple nor Samsung will comment on the rumors.
