Mobile Payment Tech Not Only Popular But Practical for Personal, Business UseImagine returning home from your favorite coffee shop only to discover that your wallet is missing. Now what do you do? You have to cancel all of your credit cards and protect your personal information to prevent theft.

Now imagine that the same thing happens, but it’s your cell phone. It can be much more challenging for the thief in question because whoever gets your phone needs to have your exact fingerprints and know your pin numbers.

So which of these two scenarios makes you feel safer?

As a result of the obvious answer in this case, the popularity of mobile payments has surged.

Surprisingly, however, mobile pay services and technologies have much room for market growth and consumer adoption. The biggest concerns people have with mobile pay platforms related to the transmission of personal information via smart phone and losing the phone altogether.

However, swiping a credit card is not all that safe either, experts remind us. Take the infamous Target or Home Depot hacking that took place in recent years as examples.

So what does embracing mobile payment platforms and technologies accomplish?

Personal use aside, according to a recent report from Entrepreneur, there are four basic advantages to having mobile payments in place for your business. What are they? Check out the insightful list here courtesy of author Bobby Emamian, Co-founder and CEO of Prolific Interactive.

Can Marketers Boost Chances of Mobile Commerce Success with the Touch of a ‘Button’Perhaps you’ve had this experience: you’re on your smartphone and you find something you want to purchase. Unfortunately, when you get to the checkout they want you to type in all of your information. Many people have found this to be such an inconvenience on a tiny phone screen they wait until they get to their computer to enter the necessary information.

Money is being dumped at record speeds into advertising and perfecting apps for your shopping needs. However, if people do not use it for the purpose of shopping, what’s the point of focusing finances on an area that isn’t seeing a good return?

To help alleviate this problem and increase in-app sales, checkout programs are adding “Buy It Now” buttons. By simply typing in your information once, the “Buy It Now” button will save your purchasing information so you won’t have to retype it again, only updating when you need to edit some information.

To give you an example, the New York Times provides a Pinterest purchasing scenario. The Times explains, “How it works for Pinterest’s ‘buyable pins’: People enter their credit card numbers into the Pinterest app, along with shipping details. When they see something they want to buy, they click ‘Buy it,’ at which point the retailer is told where to ship it and take payment using that credit card or the Apple Pay service.”

So is the touch of a “button” really the secret to success for improving chances for mobile commerce success? All evidence points to a resounding yes.

Selfies May Soon Become Your New Mobile-Centric PasswordRemember the classic James Bond movies where 007 would undergo a facial scan in order to be able to access a particular location? That’s essentially how credit cards will use selfies in the future.

MasterCard is currently beta-testing with 500 people the use of a selfie as their password.

Many phone creators are already on board with this breakthrough idea. Apple, Blackberry, Samsung Microsoft, and even Google are all aid to be excited to implement this new security feature.

So how exactly does this work? According to Information week, “The facial recognition program will map out the user’s face and convert it to binary code, which is then transmitted over the Web to MasterCard. Once the scan is set up, a user will see their image prior to making a purchase and will have to blink at their smartphone in order to verify their identity and complete the purchase.”

With this new idea, though, does come some skepticism. If this is something that will be utilized to handle sensitive financial information, more advanced facial recognition technology will be needed… and soon.

For more information on selfie passwords, check out the full report from Information Week.

Mobile Helps Music Festivals Create New Ways to Cross Promote https://mobilemarketingwatch.com/mobile-helps-music-festivals-create-new-ways-to-cross-promote/ Thu, 23 Jul 2015 12:30:17 +0000 http://mobilemarketingwatch.com/?p=51196 Imagine being at Lollapalooza and a commercial for a sponsor pops up in your phone’s screen when all you want to do is determine who you want to see. Mobile Helps Music Festivals Create New Ways to Cross PromoteImagine being at Lollapalooza and a commercial for a sponsor pops up in your phone’s screen when all you want to do is determine who you want to see. You are not going to pay attention to sponsors or promotions at that exact moment. Or even worse, most will not pay any attention at all during a concert itself.

Now instead, let’s say you’re at Bonnaroo and you only booked the basic package. You get there and then receive a text offer to upgrade to a nicer room with better amenities at a discounted price. It’s not during a show or on television where you’re more likely to miss it, but on your smartphone and a calmer junction. The likeliness you take up that offer would increase.

Those who take this measured, time-sensitive approach say that buyer confidence in sponsored products at music festivals has increased significantly in the recent past.

These new sponsor marketing tactics have all added positive benefits to both marketing companies and the music festivals themselves.

Per the observations presented in a new report from IMediaConnection, “Never underestimate the loyalty impact of treating your brands’ fans right. According to eMarketer, one in three concertgoers said they remembered the show partner of the last live event they attended, and 44 percent say music partnerships are the factor that most likely increases their positive feelings toward a sponsor brand — higher than the percentage who said the same for sporting events, TV shows, or award shows. It’s music to a marketer’s ears.”

Perhaps it would be wise to recommend a similar model to other festivals and award celebrations to help increase marketing to other industries as well. For more information on how this cross promoting is helping the music industry, check out the full report from IMediaConnection.

Mobile for a Good Cause Full Society’s App Feeds You and Those in NeedHow many times have you been at a bar or restaurant and getting the check can take just as long as getting your meal? With Full Society’s new app, that can all change, while at the same time help those less fortunate.

Finishing up funding through an Indiegogo campaign, Full Society hopes to have this app (yet to be named) out in full mainstream distribution soon.

The personal benefit of this app is eliminating the stress of having to wait for the bill, especially if you are running late for an engagement. However, the greater public benefit to the app is that it also allows you to donate to charity organizations to help those who are hungry.

With the growing number of people who do not have enough to eat, an app that streamlines this type of giving would be very helpful.

According to Retail Customer Experience, “Currently about 46 million Americans struggle with hunger, of which 12 million are children. When the Full Society app is launched and for the remainder of 2015, all donations will go directly to two partnering charities: Helping Up Mission and Paul’s Place.”

Supercuts New Mobile Features Make You Ready to GoThe folks at Supercuts have made some new upgrades to their online presence in addition to creating a mobile app. The new features now let customers make appointments online and to check-in upon arrival. The app even allows customers to manage same day service.

Along with the check-in option, Supercuts, like some other popular hair salons, has added a hot towel treatment.

“Supercuts has introduced a new complimentary Hot Towel Refresher as a finishing touch to every haircut,” the company says. “At the end of each cut, an expert Supercuts stylist uses a hot towel infused with soothing tea-tree oil to wipe away hairs from the guest’s hairline and neck so guests feel clean and ready to go.”

These two additions might be enough to some, but Supercuts has also rebranded their commercial marketing to focus on youth and social media. Commercials showing people utilizing all of Supercuts new features are on the way to television and online. Once a client finishes their Supercuts experience, takes a “selfie” and posts it to Facebook, then just like Supercuts new slogan, they are “Ready To Go”.

Two new additional cool features are also available on Supercuts website. First, guests can access over 200 different looks to determine what they’d look like with that style. In addition, all the hair care products that Supercuts offers along with an in-depth explanation on each of them allows customers to choose the one right one for them.

You can log onto Supercuts.com to get your hair care experience “Ready To Go”. Supercuts app is available on Android and iOS, and currently works with 2,400 Supercuts salons all over the nation.

Google, Yahoo Taking Serious Steps to Mitigate Online and Mobile Ad FraudHow many times have you accessed an online ad only to have it take you to something completely different? Or even worse, steal your information? Well, if this has happened to you, you are not alone.

Fear not, however, Yahoo and Google are taking action to stop it. These two powerhouse companies are attempting to have all of their online ads HTTPS encrypted. In this way, you would know the ad you’re clicking on is legitimate.

Once the coding is complete, you will not have to worry about where a link takes you, or whether your personal information is safe. Mediapost quotes Yahoo VP of Revenue Management and Ad Policy James Deaker, who describes what he calls “perhaps the largest-ever transition to SSL encryption for any publisher with display ads. Yahoo recently implemented an end-to-end encryption extension for Yahoo Mail, and strengthening security everywhere else along the advertising supply chain will help to create a safer Internet.”

Other companies are already utilizing HTTPS encoded advertising and now Google and Yahoo are following suit.

Mobile Convenience Comes Home Get Ready to Ship Packages from Home Via AppImagine this scenario: you’re at home or work and have a package you need to mail out, but don’t have the time to leave your other chores. No need to worry – with just a couple taps and a picture from your smartphone or tablet, Shyp can do it for you.

Shyp is an app that sends a delivery person to you to pick up an item that needs to be mailed. Don’t have a box? No worries. Shyp will package the item for you and figure out what shipping method is most cost-effective. All of this for just a flat $5 fee per item.

Currently Shyp services are only available in San Francisco, New York City (Manhattan and Brooklyn), Miami, and Los Angeles. However, they will ship across the United States and around the world. In addition, Shyp is working on a deal to allow consumers to return items to popular retailers such as Amazon, Gap, J. Crew, and Nordstrom.

Now, you might wonder how Shyp makes its money? Shyp has worked out discounts with the major shipping companies in addition to its service fee of $5 per item. But what about those companies, how do they view Shyp? John Doeer, investor and member of the board of directors of Shyp tells Fortune that they have “talked to high level executives at both companies, and the shipping giants see Shyp as a ‘complimentary network.’” Gibbo
