Sources close to Microsoft reveal that the company is nearing a decision on the individual who will succeed Steve Ballmer as the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft.
The frontrunner, we’re told, is Satya Nadella, a longtime Microsoft veteran.
Contrary to previous reports, which suggested that an expansive global search was underway for Ballmer’s successor, Microsoft may ultimately promote from within.
Nadella is presently the company’s enterprise and cloud leader.
While Microsoft won’t offer official comment on the rumor, the tech behemoth had previously pledged to name a new CEO in early 2014. With January winding to a close at midnight tonight, some believe the announcement could come from Microsoft early next week and certainly ahead of Mobile World Congress in late February.
