Apple’s iPhone 5s may be the bestseller between the company’s two newest smartphones, but the iPhone 5c has finally found its core market of interested buyers.
New data published Monday from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech notes that former Android users are quickly defecting to the iPhone 5c across Europe.
Based on the feedback of those surveyed, a large segment of Apple’s iPhone 5c sales has been to Android fans.
Dominic Sunnebo, the strategic insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, says the lower-cost iPhone 5c model appeals to a broader audience than Apple usually attracts.
“In the US, the biggest demand for these mid-end models is coming from lower income households,” Sunnebo says, explaining that 42% of iPhone 5c owners earn less than $49,000 compared with just 21% for iPhone 5s.
“The good news for Apple,” he adds, “is that this wider appeal is attracting significant switching from competitors. Almost half of iPhone 5C owners switched from competitor brands, particularly Samsung and LG, compared with 80% of 5S owners who upgraded from a previous iPhone model.”
