As widely anticipated, Apple on Tuesday expanded its global reach through iTunes as the popular digital storefront opened its doors in 56 additional nations.
Some of the major new markets where iTunes has arrived include Russia, India and Indonesia. The total number of markets in which iTunes is now available is 119.
As you might expect, the iTunes Store will feature music from top-selling U.S. artists as well as the work from local artists in the new markets where iTunes is now open for business.
The iTunes Store features local artists including Elka in Russia, Sezen Aksu in Turkey, AR Rahman in India, and Zahara in South Africa, international artists including The Beatles, Taylor Swift and Coldplay, and world-renowned classical musicians including Lang Lang, Yo Yo Ma and Yuja Wang. Customers can choose from over 20 million songs available to purchase and download on the iTunes Store.
Apple said today that customers in these markets also now have access to the App Store and its inventory of than 700,000 apps.
