As millions of Americans eagerly anticipate the third and final presidential debate on Monday, a new report indicates that online, mobile, and social media activity are exploding with each passing debate.
Mobile searches during the debates have increased by 2,000 percent since 2008 — presumably a result of the fact that smartphone ownership has also increased exponentially in the past four years.
The latest data from Google shows that more and more people are using online tools and resources to fact-check the candidates while the debates are still taking place.
“After the question on energy policy,” a report from Burns & Haberman reads, “energy-related mobile searches jumped 311 percent; during and after the heated Libya exchange, mobile searches for Libya increased by 3,300 percent.”
