Online Newspapers Experience Huge Growth Surge

Online Newspapers Experience Huge Growth SurgeRecent data gathered by the Newspaper Association of America and comScore shows that October 2014 was a record-setting month in the world of online newspapers.

Online-only US readership for newspapers increased 17% year over year, totaling 166 million readers.

This means that approximately 8 out of every 10 adults accesses information from online newspapers. The data was gathered while looking at 300 US newspapers, and found that some demographics turn to online newspapers far more than others. Approximately 91% of women ages 25-34, for example, read digital newspapers, and approximately 84% of men ages 35-44.

This increased readership is encouraging because newspaper advertising has fallen over 50% from 2005 to 2013—not to mention the steady decline of print subscriptions. Hopefully, as Media Daily News reports, this surge in online readership will create a ripple effect that leads to more ad revenues for struggling publishers.
