Virtual reality is not just the talk of Silicon Valley and Hollywood — there’s more and more action on this new technology on college campuses across the nation.
In fact, the Emerging Analytics Center (EAC) at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) will host a Virtual Reality Open House event October 16-17.
“Attendees will explore and experience the intriguing dynamics of virtual and augmented reality that include; scientific applications, engineering environments, architectural designs, training activities, educational experiences, business analytics, and art spaces,” reports Arkansas Matters.
Various applications will be demonstrated with a 26-projector immersive CAVE, the Oculus Rift, the Samsung Gear VR, a 180-degree immersion dome, and a variety of mobile devices.
“It’s a great opportunity to engage the center’s faculty, staff, and students, immerse yourself into computer generated worlds, and be captivated by the discovery, wonder, and fun aspects of virtual and augmented realities”, said Dr. Carolina Cruz-Neira, EAC’s Director.
Cruz-Neira thinks the event should attract many different kinds of people.
“Whether you are a professional seeking technology strategies to enhance your business, a parent wanting to expose your children to emerging technologies, or an inquiring mind who wants to know what’s on the technology horizon in Arkansas, this is your event,” she noted. “You will be inspired by UALR’s student and faculty creativity and amazed by how VR is made. The EAC is a space where art, science and technology intersect.”
