The first-to-market multi-game eSports app is moving to center court.
A leading mobile sports company, theScore, Inc., takes the trophy for being the first major sports media company to launch a dedicated mobile app for eSports.
“TheScore eSports seamlessly combines mobile-first breaking news, live scores, stats, push alerts, and links to video highlights and streams from across the world of eSports and competitive video gaming,” a statement provided to MMW reads.
Available to download for free now in Google Play, theScore’s eSports coverage can also be accessed at www.thescoreesports.com, as also on Facebook and Twitter. A theScore eSports iOS app is coming soon, according to the company.
“TheScore eSports delivers breaking news and live scoring coverage of League of Legends (Korean, North American, European and Chinese leagues) as well as real-time news coverage of Dota 2, Counter-Strike: GO, Call of Duty, StarCraft II and Hearthstone. Coverage of more games and regions will be added soon,” notes the statement.
Today, eSports is experiencing phenomenal growth. Industry analysts say the “digital fan base” now rivals that of mainstream sports leagues. Estimates are that 71 million people worldwide take in eSports.
“The many millions of eSports fans worldwide deserve a first-class, professionally supported mobile app, and that’s exactly what theScore eSports gives them,” said John Levy, Founder and CEO of theScore. “In our view, eSports should be treated as a fully-fledged sport and theScore eSports mirrors the same dedicated mobile-first approach we’ve taken with our flagship mobile sports platform.”
A win-win for sports and gaming? Yes, say industry observers.
“The launch of theScore eSports is a huge development for the world of eSports,” said Rod Breslau, a 13-year veteran journalist and broadcaster of competitive gaming and eSports. “Creating an awesome mobile experience like this is the natural next step in the enormous growth of competitive gaming.”
