The royal wedding isn’t the only significant partnership that’s becoming official in the UK this week.
On Thursday, Zynga Inc., one of the digital world’s biggest social game developers, announced its acquisition UK-based mobile game developer Wonderland Software.
Wonderland, which was founded in 2009, is behind the likes of GodFinger for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
According to the official announcement, Wonderland Software will become Zynga Mobile UK, marking Zynga’s first operating studio in the UK.
As a result of the deal, Zynga – which boasts an astounding 250 million monthly active users playing their games – is acquiring the team at Wonderland and select IP, not including GodFinger. Additional terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
“Wonderland is composed of an amazingly talented, creative team, known for developing deeply engaging and innovative games,” says David Ko, Senior Vice President of Mobile, Zynga. “This is a team that has developed novel game technology to tell engrossing stories and I’m incredibly excited to have Wonderland join Zynga as we build a presence in the UK.”
Wonderland Software includes veterans of some of the UK’s largest game companies, including Lionhead, Codemasters and Bullfrog.
