Google Announces Acquisition of Security Firm Zynamics

Google has acquired German security firm Zynamics.

“We’re pleased to announce that Zynamics has been acquired by Google!” was the short blurb heralding the acquisition Tuesday on the official Zynamics blog.

“If you’re an existing customer and do not receive our e-mail announcement within the next 48 hours, please contact us at info@zynamics.com. All press inquiries should be sent to press@google.com,” the terse announcement concluded.

Now seven years old, Zynamics was founded and launched by well known security guru Thomas Dullien, famous in the online hacking community as “Halvar Flake.”

“We’re delighted to have the zynamics team aboard and hope their tools and skills in fighting malware will help us better protect Google’s users,” the online search giant said in a statement to TechCrunch. “The zynamics team will continue to develop innovative ways of applying their software analysis tools to protect users from malicious software. Their goals overlap with the commitment that Google has already made to ensure online security for our users.”

Zynamics is a trusted vendor of security software and resources enabling companies to better learn how to detect, prevent, and eliminate security weaknesses.

At this time, it isn’t known how Google will capitalize on Zynamics software or somehow incorporate it into its current or future slate of products and services.
