Are Apple loyalists poised to turn out at the box office to the same extent observed during a new Apple product launch?
That’s what some Hollywood producers are hoping for today as news comes to the new Steve Jobs biopic titled “Jobs” starring Ashton Kutcher will open in theaters nationwide on August 16th.
The eagerly awaited new film supposedly covers nearly 30 years of Jobs’ life, spanning 1971 to 2000.
The film plunges into the depths of his character, creating an intense dialogue-driven story that is as much a sweeping epic as it is an immensely personal portrait of Steve Jobs’ life.
According to Deadline, the movie, which was directed by Joshua Michael Stern and written by Matthew Whiteley, premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in January.
For the most part, however, the presentation generated mixed reviews at best.
Beyond Ashton Kutcher, the movie also stars Dermot Mulroney, Josh Gad, Lukas Haas, J.K. Simmons and Matthew Modine.
It should be noted that “Jobs” is one of two forthcoming films focused on the late Apple chief executive. The other production is a big-budget, Sony-backed picture which is currently being penned by legendary writer Aaron Sorkin.
That Sorkin-written movie will be based on Walter Isaacson’s official biography of Steve Jobs. No release date has been confirmed for the project as of this writing.
