Apple on Tuesday reported that the global iOS app economy continues to spur significant job growth.
“Throughout our history, Apple has created entirely new products — and entirely new industries — by focusing on innovation,” the company says. “As a result, we’ve created or supported nearly 600,000 jobs for U.S. workers: from the engineer who helped invent the iPad to the delivery person who brings it to your door.”
Based on the latest data made available, Apple’s iOS app ecosystem helped create some 80,000 jobs in the U.S. in 2012 alone.
Most of these positions, Apple says, opened up as a direct result of the need for talent to design, engineer, and maintain software for Apple’s iOS mobile platform.
As of this writing, 307,250 U.S. jobs are supported by Apple. That includes 50,250 individuals employed directly by Apple.
The rest of these jobs are spread across all 50 states and include “thousands of jobs in numerous industries, from the people who create components for our products to the people who build the planes and trucks that carry them to our customers.”
