Google and Twitter recently made an announcement that real-time trending tweets will now show up in Google search engine results. To begin with, tweets will start showing up in the Google app and on the mobile web and soon on desktop and laptop results as well.
Whether this change will improve Twitter’s page ranks is not clear, but this major change is likely to turn Twitter into an even more powerful lead generator, MediaPost reports.
The deal will likely turn Twitter into a tool to drive leads from Google’s search query results to publishers or merchants. Clicking on the Google results connects users to Twitter where visitors can explore other topics.
In order to see this change firsthand, web browsers can simply type something along the lines of “Illinois Twitter” in to Google, and the results generated will be millions of tweets, opposed to standard Google search results. In fact, in most cases the search results will generate tweets before any actual outside news.
