Rampant speculation has loomed during the last twenty-four hours about a special “guest speaker” at Apple’s WWDC on June 7th.
According to a report late Wednesday from Barron’s, Steve Jobs had agreed to share the stage during his conference-opening keynote with Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer. Ballmer’s prospective attendance would enable the Microsoft executive to introduce Visual Studio 2010, Microsoft’s sophisticated suite of developer tools.
On Thursday afternoon, however, Microsoft set the record straight on its official Twitter page: “Steve Ballmer not speaking at Apple Dev Conf. Nor appearing on Dancing with the Stars. Nor riding in the Belmont. Just FYI.”
Strangely enough, talk of a potential Microsoft and Apple collaboration at WWDC came just hours after Apple’s market capitalization reached $222 billion. As Wall Street closed Wednesday, Apple had officially surpassed Microsoft as the largest tech company in the world.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs is expected to unveil the 4th-generation iPhone on June 7th to kick off the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, California. The keynote address is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. PST
