Google Makes a Fashionable Hiring Decision

Google Makes a Fashionable Hiring DecisionIn recent months, as Apple has shifted its focus to the realm of fashion to find its new head of retail operations (former CEO of Burberry, Angela Ahrends), the folks at Google have been taking note.

The internet search giant has just announced its latest strategic hire. And it comes from within the fashion world.

Ivy Ross formally joins Google today to lead the company’s Glass efforts.

“I have spent my career–Calvin Klein, Swatch, Coach, Mattel, Bausch & Lomb, Gap and, most recently, Art.com–at the intersection of design and marketing, trying to answer questions like this in different ways, for different products,” Ross explains in a Google+ entry.

“But Glass is especially cool,” Ross continued, “as no one has really tried to answer them with a product like this before. That’s our job, Explorers! I’m just getting started on Glass, but, because of all of you, and your thoughtful and smart feedback, I feel like I have an incredible head start. And I look forward to learning even more from you, and experiencing Glass together.”

As Google inches closer to launching Glass, it appears that the company is taking seriously the criticisms that it should do more to increase the aesthetic appeal of the wearable tech.
