Apple’s New iPhone 5 Dazzles or Disappoints?

Apple delivered today on many of the widely rumored attributes of the next-generation iPhone 5.

“I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that the hardware and software engineering that has gone into this product is unlike we’ve ever undertaken before,” says Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing. “It’s designed and built to an exacting level of standard unlike anything we, or anyone in our industry, have made before. ”

But did the iPhone dazzle or disappoint today in its long-awaited unveiling?

The new iPhone features touted by Apple today include:

  • 4G LTE connectivity
  • Fast A6 processor
  • thinner design/weight
  • 4-inch Retina display
  • Longer battery life

But two of the most eagerly anticipated features didn’t show up today: coverage from T-Mobile and implementation of Near Field Communications technology for mobile payments/commerce.

The price structure for iPhone 5 is the same as previous models: $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB.

Pre-orders start on Friday the 14th for shipping on September 21st in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
