On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates‘ Sean Rodriguez repeatedly whacked a Gatorade cooler out of extreme frustration as the Chicago Cubs delivered a devastating loss to the Pirates during the NL Wild Card Game.
By Thursday morning, comedians and souvenir makers were ready to pounce on Rodriguez for his water cooler aggression.
To celebrate the victory, Funny Baseball Tees created an “overnight success” on Amazon in the form of a new t-shirt that reads: “Real Pirates Arrr Kind to Coolers.”
“We can’t keep up with the demand right now,” lead designer and Funny Baseball Tees owner Sam Caldridge told Examiner on Thursday. “We just went live on Amazon and it’s just nuts the interest we’re seeing from Cubs fans.”
Caldridge believes that the violent and unsportsmanlike conduct of Rodriguez during last night’s game will haunt the player for the rest of his career, especially when he comes back to Chicago for regular season games.
“Real Pirates Arrr Kind to Coolers” is available exclusively for now on Amazon, although Caldridge is hopeful Chicago Cubs team officials will want to begin selling the shirts at Wrigley Field in time for the World Series.
“The Cubbies are going all the way,” he is quoted in the report. “This is their year.”
