Following yesterday’s unveiling of the new iPhone 5, on Thursday we are learning that prepaid wireless carrier Cricket will offer its customers the refreshed Apple smartphone later this month.
Last June, Cricket became the first prepaid wireless carrier in the U.S. to carry the iPhone. And beginning September 28th, Apple’s iPhone 5 will join the pre-paid party at Cricket.
For now, Cricket will only say that the new iPhone will launch in “select Cricket markets” at the end of this month. Correspondingly, no pricing information has been made available yet.
But it is believed that the new iPhone could prove a big hit with a large segment of Cricket’s 6.2 million subscribers.
“I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that the hardware and software engineering that has gone into this product is unlike we’ve ever undertaken before,” Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said yesterday. “It’s designed and built to an exacting level of standard unlike anything we, or anyone in our industry, have made before.”
