iPhone Rumor: Boost Mobile to Offer Prepaid iPhone in September

Following Thursday’s announcement from Cricket that the value-driven mobile operator will offer a prepaid iPhone option for the first time in the U.S. later this month, another flourishing name in the prepaid arena is apparently poised to step up to the plate.

According to published reports this afternoon, Sprint subsidiary Boost Mobile will also offer a prepaid iPhone this September. Analogous to the Cricket option, Boost Mobile will allegedly carry the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

The information comes from a “trusted source” speaking with TechnoBuffalo.

It remains uncertain if the Sprint-powered MVNO will offer its popular $50 Month Unlimited plan with Shrinkage, which includes unlimited talk, text and web, which also rewards customers who pay their bill on time by reducing their monthly bill by $5 down to as low as $35 per month.

“This is definitely a new era for prepaid as the introduction of the iPhone will likely result in more high-end Android devices being available off-contract,” writes the article’s author Mark Hearn. “It looks like the postpaid market may have some competition.”
